our last day on Vlieland flew by. after another bountiful breakfast we checked out of the hotel and made our way over the dunes to the beach, along which we walked until we were spotted by Fieke’s aunt from the restaurant of one of the hotels by the water. she greeted us with big hugs and shouted us hot chocolates.

we gradually made our way back to the village, following paths winding through forests we had not yet explored. dogs and cats greeted us along the way, some of whom were keen for cuddles.

we stopped at our first lunch spot again as we waited for the rain to pass - Fieke had pancakes, I had a waffle. we spent our final hours on the island strolling through the village and watching the sun over the water. Fieke’s aunt waved us goodbye from the shore as our boat left the port.

our trains home took time, and it was a little jarring to be slipping right back into the chaos of intercity commuting after such a peaceful time in Vlieland. I’m glad I had Fieke by my side to help make the transition less stressful.

Fieke’s parenrs greeted us with hugs and drinks when we arrived home, excited to hear all about our time away. I already feel so at home with them, and consider myself very lucky to know their friendship and kindness.

sleepy now. I’ll explore the city tomorrow whilst Fieke takes her classes. I’m excited to see new things, and feel very lucky to be where I am right now. <<
