Roma to Firenze

I said goodbye to Rome today, waiting mostly in a cheap fast food joint for a bus to take me to Florence. the trip through the Tuscan countryside of sprawling vineyards and villas rolling from one hill to the next brought back fond memories of a family roadtrip many years ago.

I disappointed myself in giving up on Italian cuisine for the night in Florence, enjoying some fried rice with vegetables (which I have missed so much!) the hostel is the most basic I’ve stayed in, but in a gorgeous location. after dinner I wandered the lanes and was overwhelmed by the charm of the streets, with fountains flourishing in sculptures every second block, and cathedrals towering over finely decorated piazzas buzzing with life. Uffizi and David tomorrow, hopefully il duomo too. Florence already feels magical. I’m very lucky to be here. <<
