we stopped at the post haus for lunch, where we tried some soups (tomato and cheese). more walking in the afternoon. bird watching on a landscape Fieke fondly referred to as ‘the end of the world’. we spoke about what we still miss about Lewes and the time we spent there. the island has felt like a warm hug despite the chill of the wind, and I’m grateful to be sharing this time with such a precious friend.
we rode the bike back to the village after waving the afternoon ferry goodbye. wine and bitterballen on the waterfront, before buying fries to take home. another nonsense movie saw us through to the end of a glorious day.
we leave the island tomorrow afternoon. I’ll be staying with Fieke for the week, after which I’m not sure what I’ll be doing. I’m lucky to be spending this time with someone I’ve missed so much, and I’m grateful for the chance to stop and be present. the peace we’ve enjoyed on Vlieland is really hard to find, and we’re fortunate to have enjoyed it for a quiet couple of days.
